The 57th annual Mac Tools US Nationals presented by Lucas Oil are now complete, which also marks the end of the regular season and means the top ten competitors that will compete in the Countdown to the Championship are now locked in. And of the top ten, Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines riders Eddie Krawiec and Andrew Hines are slotted-in for the countdown in the number one and four positions, respectively.
The weekend started off well at the US Nationals, which takes place just over a mile from the Vance & Hines race shop in Brownsburg at Lucas Oil Raceway. After five rounds of qualifying, Hines captured the number one spot with a 6.909 second pass at 193.90 mph. Krawiec also put in a strong effort, posting a best time of 6.953/192.28 placing him sixth for the elimination rounds run on Labor Day.
In eliminations, Krawiec won his first round match against David Hope, after the two sparred at the line in a psychological battle to break the staging beams, with a 6.974/190.14 to Hope’s 7.031/182.33. Unfortunately, Hines luck ran out, as the number one qualifier suffered a transmission failure at the line, giving a bye to Shawn Gann to the next round.
In the quarterfinals, Krawiec faced off against Jerry Savoie, who took Krawiec with the holeshot, putting both Screamin’ Eagle / Vance & Hines V-Rods back on the trailer. The good news, however, is that both Hines and Krawiec are in good position to gun for the Countdown, which begins in less than two weeks at zMAX Dragway in Charlotte, North Carolina for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals, September 15-18.
